Sending New Missionaries

On Saturday 27 January, Christians from many Cornish churches gathered at Penzance Baptist Church for a commissioning service for Phil and Lydia Evans who are going to serve the Lord in Latvia. Phil and Lydia shared their testimonies of how the Lord had convicted each of them about mission, and how they had met when leading the first Latvia Envision Team in 2015. Now married, they are heading out to serve in Latvia long-term. We rejoice in how God has provided their support, and ask you to pray for them as they move to Latvia at the beginning of February. They will be working alongside Malcolm and Ruth Firth in Grace International Church, Mezciems, in Riga.

Currently, we are also seeking to raise support for two other couples who want to go and serve. New missionaries need to have 100% of their support pledged before they can go. Tom and Lucy Forryan want to go and serve the Lord in Paris. Tom has been pastor of Derby Road Baptist Church in Watford for twenty years. The plan is for them to work alongside local churches to reach out to the huge Parisian population. Tom is keen to see a week-day lunchtime service started in the heart of the city to reach out to business people, as well as being active in lots of other forms of evangelism. We at GBM are grateful for the many people who want to join a chorus of prayer that backs them in what they want to do. The steady work of evangelism in Paris will need much prayer for God to open doors for the gospel. We also need many churches and individuals who will commit to give to their regular support. We are grateful for the churches that have already pledged to support them, and those individuals who have already set up a regular standing order for their support. Paris is one of the most expensive cities of the world to live in, because the costs of housing are high. Even if they settle in one of the poorer neighbourhoods of Paris, we will need many more individuals and churches to back them if they are to go. At this stage we are simply looking for pledges of support that would begin from September 2018. If you would like to partner with Tom and Lucy in this way, do fill in the response form on the leaflet you can download here.

Chris and Helen Hawthorne are being sent by their Church to serve in Zambia. Chris has been invited to become principal of Proclamation Institute Zambia. PIZ runs a course similar to the Cornhill Training Course in London, aiming to equip African preachers to handle Scripture well and teach it in a variety of settings. Zambia is strategically situated at the heart of Southern Africa, and the hope is that PIZ can be a stable place for training preachers from a number of nations. Chris and Helen are being sent by their Church, St John’s Wood Road Baptist Church in London, and hope to go to serve in November of this year, provided they can raise their support. If your Church would like to partner in supporting them, do contact GBM to arrange a deputation visit. If you would like to become an individual supporter, do fill in the response form on the leaflet you can download here.
