Sending New Missionaries

On Saturday 27 January, Christians from many Cornish churches gathered at Penzance Baptist Church for a commissioning service for Phil and Lydia Evans who are going to serve the Lord in Latvia. Phil and Lydia shared their testimonies of how the Lord had convicted each of them about mission, and how they had met when leading the first Latvia Envision Team in 2015. Now married, they are heading out to serve in Latvia long-term. We rejoice in how God has provided their support, and ask you to pray for them as they move to Latvia at the beginning of February. They will be working alongside Malcolm and Ruth Firth in Grace International Church, Mezciems, in Riga.

Currently, we are also seeking to raise support for another couple who want to go and serve. New missionaries need to have 100% of their support pledged before they can go.

Chris and Helen Hawthorne are being sent by their Church to serve in Zambia. Chris has been invited to become principal of Proclamation Institute Zambia. PIZ runs a course similar to the Cornhill Training Course in London, aiming to equip African preachers to handle Scripture well and teach it in a variety of settings. Zambia is strategically situated at the heart of Southern Africa, and the hope is that PIZ can be a stable place for training preachers from a number of nations. Chris and Helen are being sent by their Church, St John’s Wood Road Baptist Church in London, and hope to go to serve in November of this year, provided they can raise their support. If your Church would like to partner in supporting them, do contact GBM to arrange a deputation visit. If you would like to become an individual supporter, do fill in the response form on the leaflet you can download here.

For the last year Tom and Lucy Forryan have been seeking prayer and financial support to be able to go and serve the Lord in Paris. Tom has made many Sunday and midweek visits to churches, and while many individuals have signed up to receive his prayer letter, sadly there have not been the necessary pledges of financial support to make it possible for them to go.

The cost of serving in Paris is high, even when living in one of the poorer neighbourhoods, and then there are the additional costs of language study and education for their son. As a result, their Church in Watford has come to the decision with GBM that they will not go to France this summer. We are grateful to all those churches and individuals that have pledged their support.

Tom and Lucy will be looking to move from Watford to a new ministry from September, most likely pastoring a church in the UK.  Alongside this, they still aim to keep an interest in the work of the gospel in Paris.  Tom has an invitation to preach at the church at Bry-sur-Marne in April, a French-language media project in the pipeline for the summer, and thoughts towards leading an Envision team in Paris, perhaps in the autumn of 2019.  As always, they would value your prayers.

GBM remains committed to the gospel needs of France. We continue to support James Hammond in Bordeaux, as well as our French language radio programmes. We see Paris as one of many spiritually needy cities across Europe. Europe is the continent now most in need of evangelism and church-planting.
